Selection Information

Aims

·       To increase the ranking of each individual athlete (cadet, junior & senior).

·       To increase the competitive experience of each individual athlete (kids, cadet, junior & senior – including masters).

·       To increase ITL performance internationally.

·       To increase ITL presence internationally.

·       To promote accountability in chosen athletes.

The above competitions are selection dependent. But all athletes forming part of the ITL competition team are strongly urged to take part in the events they are chosen (reasons highlighted in the ‘aims’ section).

ITL athletes will not charge coaching fees for international competitions.

Absence Policy in Training and Competitions

·       Athletes in the Competition Team will have their attendance monitored from here henceforth.

·       A minimum of 90% attendance is required across all sessions.

·       Should an athlete not meet the quota of attendance, he/she will be removed from any upcoming competition(s) regardless of whether travel plans have been established.

·       Should an athlete be accepted and already registered for a competition and – following that – not continue meeting the 90% attendance quota, said athlete will be removed from the competition, even if flights and accommodation are booked.

·       Reasonable reasons for absences include illness, family emergency, or other unavoidable situations. It is not acceptable for athletes to withdraw for illegitimate reasons (for instance: a social event).

Mandatory Schedule for Training

-       Tuesday è Strength and Conditioning

-       Wednesday è Tactical Training

For Kids:

Expected Etiquette

Attitudes in training are to be more heavily scrutinized. Athletes are expected to give their utmost effort in training and act with the appropriate etiquette. That means:

·       Ensuring all their belongings are stored neatly and their shoes are stored in the designated cabinet with all equipment used returned to its place in the neatest way possible.

·       Being a positive influence to other team players, particularly if they are of lower ability.

·       No excessive ‘joking around’ in training, bullying, inappropriate jokes or behaviour, dangerous play or ‘slacking off’ in a given drill will be allowed. All athletes are expected to consistently demonstrate high levels of effort, discipline and commitment during training sessions and events.

·       Athletes are to use their time wisely even after training. For instance, instead of playing football, it is more worthwhile to stretch and/or debrief on an individual performance.

·       Parents and athletes are also requested not to impose any changes to the competition agenda.

·       Athletes will watch, support and motivate their fellow athletes whenever they are competing regardless of where and when. They will make as much noise as possible and make a discernible presence (noise) whenever point-sensitive decisions can be made (let’s say, a punch is made by the athlete). In competition, as a team, we need to have the presence of a ‘second athlete’ in the ring.

·       Breaches of the etiquette listed in the above point may result in exclusion in a given competition and a withdrawal of any funds used for that purpose.

·       The coaches reserve the right to exclude any team member from the Competition Team if their performance, attendance or behaviour does not meet the Academy’s standards.

·       When travelling for competitions, it is imperative that we travel with one (1) guardian, where kids are concerned. Anything more than that will hamper the organisation of the excursion, especially if a volunteer is managing the booking. All concerned parties now have enough travel experience to know how difficult it is.

·       With respect to the above point, if bookings are to be managed by a volunteer, all athletes/parents are to allow a complete autonomy of said volunteer(s) to manage the booking.
